Cutaway

by Emily Price
for About.com

Definition: A cutaway is when you show something other than the main action and then return to your videos focus. Cutaways are typically used to cover up edits within a video. For instance if you are recording a graduation you show a shot of the stage, cutaway to a shot of the crowd, then show another similar shot of the stage.
