Lens

The DCR-DVD7 has a professional quality Carl Zeiss lens that is covered by an internal lens cap. The lens cap on the camcorder is opened manually using a lever underneath the lens on the front of the camcorder.

Built-In Editing Software

The DCR-DVD7 comes with some basic editing software built right into the camcorder. The software will allow you to break your video into different pieces, and then create a play list of those pieces. It is not the fanciest of video editing, but for someone without a computer, or someone who is on vacation away from their computer and wants to edit their video it will do a good job.

Handling

I thought this was a pretty easy camcorder to hold and operate. If you have larger hands I can see the potential of accidentally covering the lens with a finger, but overall it should be easy for most people to hold and operate. The circular shape of this camcorder made using it a little awkward for me, since I am used to typical camcorder styles. First-time camcorder users may enjoy the camcorders small design however and ease of use.
