It's been a while since Pure Digital has had the pocket camcorder market all to itself. Now, with the field chock full of competitors, it's back with a second generation of its Flip Mino HD - a smaller version of the Flip UltraHD and a sequel to the 2008 model.
The big news in the new Mino is direct video uploading to Facebook via the built-in FlipShare software.
The new Mino also sports a slightly larger screen than the original at 2-inches and more memory, at 8GBs (for roughly 2 hours of recording). It keeps the same 1280 x 720 HD resolution as the original Mino HD but tweaks the style with more rounded edges and a brushed metallic housing. You can further customize the housing at TheFlip.com
Technologically speaking, it's still bare bones. A 2x digital zoom is about as whiz-bang as you'll get. I like the Flip's ease-of-use and now that the pocket camcorder category has diversified, consumers who want a little more functionality in the same form factor can go elsewhere.
