New Software for Flip Camcorders, iPhones

Pure Digital, makers of the Flip line of pocket camcorders, will update the software it builds into its portable video cameras this month. They'll also introduce a new application for the iPhone.

The new FlipShare software will be loaded onto all new Flips sold from June 16, 2009 on, and will also be available as a free download from www.theflip.com.

The biggest change is the addition of Flip Channels to the FlipShare.com website, which allows you to share your Flip videos without hosting them on public sites like YouTube. To share your Flip video through a Flip Channel, you invite viewers through an email link.

A forthcoming iPhone application will let users view Flip Channels on their iPhones as well. It will be a free download, but no availability has been set.
